So, originally I was going to make a Sonic mascot costume for Summer of Sonic in London this August but I'm now coming to Amecon instead of going to SoS and I think that a Sonic macot suit would be overkill for Amecon.
I've started work on a Son Goku (DBZ) that I was going to wear to the MCM Expo in May which I could always wear at Amecon, but I might see if I can get that Sonic suit ready for May instead, so I still get to make it, rather than wear Goku to both but May's going to be too hot for a mascot suit. I had considered a Robotnik/ Eggman instead.
My other costume is a suit of Mk VI Spartan armour from Halo and again, that would just be impractical.
I also have a Luigi costume that is starting to get a little overused and doesn't quite fit me anymore, and a Vegeta that I probably won't use again as it was eBay bought, a little tight, and I now prfer to make my own costumes.
Or I can start work on a completely different costume. My girlfriend's really into Kingdom Hearts so she'll most likely be cosplaying Roxas again, but while I enjoyed the games I have doubts about doing a KH cosplay - if I were to do one, it would probably be Leon or Wisdom Form Sora but I get the impression that KH is considered overdone and everyone's getting tired of seeing it.
I'm reading Fullmetal Alchemist and it's probably my favourite series, but I don't think I'd suit any of the characters without cloaking myself in Al's armour and again, that's impractical. I like Bleach and Naruto, but they're overdone. I'm currently reading Negima, but I doubt I could pull off a decent Negi or Nagi and most of the remaining cast are female.
If anyone has some thoughts, ideas or suggestions, please feel free to put them forward. I'm a bit of a bean pole, finally starting to bulk out a little bit but I'd still prefer if there were more meat on my bones, think Shinji Ikari, Sora, Sasuke... That general build and I usually like to do costumes that suit my body type.
Thanks in advance, and congratulations if you actually read all of that =)

Just cosplay what you want to cosplay, it doesn't really matter if the series is 'overdone' but I can see the appeal in wanting to cosplay a less often seen character. Also don't worry about build too much, it's all in fun, though I can see why you may personally want to avoid heavily muscled characters.
Ultimately I'd say establish which character you'd most like to cosplay or which of the works in progress you think are going to find the easiest to complete effectively. Or go with both! Though you are right thatsome thought to the fact that it could be a bit warm for a fursuit character to be comfortable in the (possible... you know the UK!) heat of August.

Oh wow, I completely forgot about Takahata. There's also Kotaro, in the recent manga volumes he's using the spell that makes him look older and fighting in that tournament with Negi (also using the age spell and calling himself Nagi).
You guys are right in that I shouldn't take things too seriously and just cosplay the characters I love most, but I just think it's always nice to be aware of practicality, comfort and whether or not you have any chance of pulling the character off. Walking around an Expo where it's mostly just stalls and people taking photos, a suit of armour was fine (despite being physically incapable of sitting down in the armour, on my feet all day), but going to a convention where there are actually events and stuff going on is completely different and you need to be comfortable and have full freedom of movement. Also, there'd be no way I could pull off characters such as DBZ's Broly without a hideous muscle suit (though if I did Goku I would at least try to tone my arms a little - I mean, I wanna work on my arms anyways, or I would do late DB, early DBZ Goku where he didn't have raging muscles everywhere)
I've seen a few people where their costumes are fantastic. Absolutely spot on, round of applause to them, but they didn't suit the costume at all. I would like to stress that I am not saying 'fat chicks in Sailor Moon outfits, no thanks', I'm saying that someone who would make a great Spider-Man would probably make for a bad Wolverine and I like to take that into consideration as I am more Spidey than Wolvy, and I'm aware there are certain tricks to getting around these things that work up to a point.
I'm currently thinking of still doing Goku to MCM, and bring him as a costume for Amecon, but also make a new Vegeta for Amecon, Saiyan Saga, when he's not too muscular, with tail and everything, maybe make the armour from fiberglass. Maybe a Robotnik, but the new version where he's a little more trim. Try my hand at making a latex mask for his, let's be honest, weird face and wear a pregnancy pack or something that they use for pregnant characters in plays for his bulge. If there's time, and I stress that as an if, I could always do Sora Wisdom Form to make the missus happy but my budget should probably only stretch to two new costumes, seeing as Goku will be recycled from May.

I'd still do the Sonic one, that sounds like it'd be pretty awesome! Do KH if you feel like it, even if it may be seen as 'overdone', no two cosplays are the same and it's nice to see new versions!
The only suggestion I would make- don't make something that's gonna be boiling to wear, remember August is *supposed* to be a summer month
